SOUND: Bon Iver - Skinny Love (Das Kapital Rerub)

Well shit, this is good. I wasn't going to post anything else for the day but this is too good to pass up. I'm not generally a huge remix fan, but whoever Das Kapital is, with this Rerub* of Skinny Love they're killing it.

*Really? We need another word for remix? We're not exactly Eskimos here, we don't need a thousand terms for "hey I changed your original work".

WHO DOES IT BETTER: GRFX - Chiddy Bang vs. HotKid

Both of these groups do some really fun and creative work with integrated graphics in these live-action music videos. While I'm a much bigger fan of Chiddy Bang musically, HotKid really pulls through with some very complex and innovative editorial cuts alongside their graphic fusion. However, there is something to be said of the casual-cool feel of "Truth", as sometimes subtlety says a lot more than we tend to give credit for.

SOUND: The Avalanches make madness...

THE AVALANCHES - Frontier Psychiatrist
First off, I've listened to this song for the past two years or so and am still inspired by this beat and all the elements that seem so different from one another that still find a very original way to work together. It kills me how under-exposed this song is. But this video is on a whole other level of well-orchestrated insanity...

THE AVALANCHES - Since I Left You
Apparently every coal miner is required to have Chris Penn's Footloose dance nailed before venturing below... I really wish I hadn't admitted knowing what that is.

Day 1, Tracks 1 & 2 - In memoriam.

THE PICTURES: Coachelletta

Tilt shift promo piece for Coachella 2011: So this is what we look like from up here? Dates are up and performance speculations are already frothing with big names... April 15, 16, and 17 are locked. Daft Punk... maybe? I digress, enjoy this really well done vid, even the integrated end grfx are totally sweet.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DUDES

These guys also have websites that make mine look like a 3rd grader ate heavily toxic paste then finger-painted for twelve hours in a dim-lit room... wait that sounds way too rad.

FRIDAY UPDATES: stuff and things are happening...

So there's no fancy friday showdown or anything like that today, there's just the announcement that I'll be taking this shit up a notch. I'm tired of trying to perfect every little thing and then just not posting anything because of a fear of sucking. I spend so much time trying to do everything sometimes I end up not doing anything at all and fuck.that. I've got a list of videos that I'll be posting today that I'm really excited about and I've got a great new collection of graphic design sources that I'm going to be tapping into. Also, in honor of some additions I'm making to my home studio I will be releasing a series of "B-Sides that don't have an A-Side" which are about 9 songs that I've produced over the last six years whose master files have recently been lost forever on a busted computer. I'll be spreading their digi-ashes right here on W&V where I'll post a song or two every morning starting Monday. Some are incomplete and needed more work than others but I'm not just gonna let them sit there, staring at me, mouthing the words... "we could have been good together". I won't do it. I WON'T. Plus, I think it'll help make some healthy room for the new stuff I'm working on...

That is all.

Love,
Daniel

FACES OF US: Everything in it's right place...

BYUN from thismustbetheplace on Vimeo.

Well that was a nice three month vacation... if only I could survive on a 1 month working / 3 vacationing schedule with everything in my life. Nonetheless, I'm back with a month and a half left in the year to make some dents on this blog.

This video of the Brooklyn artist, Byun, has been sitting in the queue for a few months now. It provided some great inspiration for the new header and has a different look into the influence of space and design in the places we live and create...
